ANTÔNIO CARLOS TÓRTORO : IDEAL LIDER – POR ANANDA SILVA

Oi Toninho! =D
Tudo bem?

Beijos
Ananda

IDEAL LIDER DESCRIPTION
Antônio Carlos Tórtoro – Toninho, is the my inspirant leader. He has been the director of Colégio Anchieta, the elementary and secondary school that I’ve studied when I was 10 years old till 16 years old.  Besides being the director, he is a writer, plastic artist, president of the association of education and culture of my city, chairmain the academy of literacy of ribeirao preto. He inspires me for his character. He is one of the most trustful person that I’ve ever known. He is simple, and fair. But most importantly, he is no envious, and he believes in his students and stimulates at the most its potencial.

According with Robert Goffee (Goffee & Jones, 2006) and Gareth Jones, too succeed it is important to inspire people, as well as capture their hearts, minds and soul. The authors argues that to inspire, it is important that the leader presents itself as a normal personal, with weaknesses as well as strength. The text also explains that it is important as well to trust the intuition and be able to realize the emotions and perception of others as best as possible, so the leader is able to judge how well goes the relationship. The author also states that it is  important not to lose the sense of reality and to be empathic with the member of the team, and relate with them. According with the author, it is important to give to the team what they need, not what they want. And finally, it is important to be audacious, and use the uniqueness in your favor, and be authentic.

Toninho would be always wear jeans, t-shirts, and tennis. The door of his office was always open for the students, and he would also have time to talk with each an every student that was willing to talk with him. He never posed himself as a super hero, but as a human being. He was very good to deal with teenagers emotions, and we were able to relate with him as the leader of our school. I trusted in him, and I knew that any decision that he would take was the best for all of us. He always gave us what we needed, not what we wanted. In his art he is very authentic, as well as in this writings. He is very important in my city cultural and educational cenario.

Daniel Goleman  (Goleman, 2006) compares the differences between leader and a manager. In the authors point of view, the lider should be able to motivate, stablish a direction, align people to this direction to insure the goals are followed. The author argues that planning should be a tool for leadership. When it comes to motivation according with the author, it is important that the leader values the work of each member of the team, because it is important that each one of them feels that their work is important, and that they are important. It is important that the leader allows people to get envolved with the work and that they have control of their work. It is also important that the leader gives coaching and feedback and raise the teams esteem, to make the subordinates recognized that they were the ones that achieved the goal, and turn the objective in reality. The leaser should coach the team and create a leadership culture, because they will be the future leaders.

The slogan of my ancienne school is “Making the beings human”. It is a play with the words human-being. And that was the direction that he lead the school. We felt that he and all other leader of the school followed this statement, and actually my school is deeply rooted with humanitarian values. The activities that he proposed would always have implicitly this values, as well as citizenship, respect, and tolerance. Because of this attitude, it was very rare to see fights, bulling, drug problems and other issues in the school. In 6 years in the school I can count in one hand the violence (even verbal violence) in the school. There are  a leadership culture in my school where every class has its leaders, in games and teams we have leaders, and he would often consult the leaders of each class what they thought was best for our school.

According with Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz  (Loehr & Schwartz, 2006), for a lider to succed in it role, it necessary to understand the high-performance pyramid. The body is the base of the pyramid, followed by emotions, mind and spirit, where it is important for the lider to manage his energy. In the body part of the pyramid, the author argues that it is important that the líder is in shape, healthy, and respect its limits. In the emotional area, it is important to spend time with the loved ones, understand and deal with positive and negative emotions. In the mental (mind) part of the pyramid regards with capacity to focus, to manage time, to deal with stress, where it is important for the leader to apply tecnics such as meditation to alternate stress and renovation. In the spiritual dimention, the author argues that it is important for the leader to succeed to understand its values, their source of motivation, and focus.

Toninho as far as I know him has always being in shape. He was a very emotional personal, and visionary: he would always encourage us that the world is a work n progress, and that we can help this process all the time, with our actions, thoughts and emotions. He is a religious person, as far as I perceive. He does work a lot, but every time I talked with him, he had always a smile in his face saying: “Hey Ananda, what can I do for you?!”

TRADUÇÃO

DESCRIÇÃO DO LIDER IDEAL

Destaco do trabalho dela o parágrafo “Toninho would be always wear jeans, t-shirts, and tennis. He is very important in my city cultural and educational cenario.”

Só posso dizer a vocês dois “congratulations for you in my deep heart and mind.”
